KENZO La Collection Memento Nº4

We are delighted to celebrate the next phase in the development of KENZO – La Collection Memento. For the fourth edition of this collection dedicated to revisiting the house’s archives, KENZO will offer fans and customers the option to buy pieces the day after the collection’s presentation. As with each KENZO – La Collection Memento, we have selected to reinvigorate a different element from the archives of the time of our house’s founder Kenzo Takada. For KENZO – La Collection Memento N°1 we focused on florals and ruffles, number 2 was an ode to the launch of Kenzo Jeans and for the third edition we brought attention back to some of our founders’ terrific knitwear.

Delving into the archives for KENZO – La Collection Memento N°4, we were astounded once again at the volume of creatively and inspired printed pieces. For this collection we have decided to put the spotlight on some of the house’s most vivid and diverse prints and graphics. We celebrate Kenzo Takada’s fun and whimsical side. His consistent ability to bring a tongue and cheek attitude to the fashion world and most importantly his love for food and entertaining. Key printed pieces, instantly identifiable as KENZO, are at the core of this collection. Historical icons such as the tiger appear in a multitude of expressions.

Leading the way is our collection of cotton pieces featuring hyper real painted tomatoes in either red or yellow. For men they are featured on shirts and shorts. For women we also worked the print onto short sleeve archival smock dresses and mesh shirts.

Photo-realistic airbrushed tigers appear in dual color ways of blue or tan and appear on varying tee shirts, sweaters or shirts in cotton poplin for men and women. We are also happy to reissue for the first time our “running tiger” motif in gold and burgundy for shirts and shorts. The ultra-graphic “K” motif appears in bi-colored skirts and dresses. Complimenting the printed pieces are light cotton gabardine trousers and jackets in green or black. The exciting re-edition of prints also makes its way to accessories and revitalises KENZO’s already successful line of bags –bumbags, backpacks, totes and the reversible “Knot” bag - as well as on caps and slip on trainers.

To best convey the emotions of KENZO – La Collection Memento N°4, we called upon photographer Campbell Addy to capture the energy and emblematic youth of Parisian artists and creators. Each member of the cast has their own relationship to the City of Lights. More importantly they hold individual points of view when it comes to interpersonal relationships, fashion culture and how they like to dress. They were shot in a surreal, oversized food market, complete with baskets, ‘knot’ bags and giant tomatoes. We sat down with them to give us insights into their lives – how they eat? How they live? and what it’s like living in the world’s capital of fashion.
